\n

Dr. Silvia Cappellozza participated in the International conference entitled \u201cSericulture preservation and revival \u2013 problems and prospects\u201d<\/strong>, bringing the experience of Italian silk and of the Serinnovation project<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Agriculture of the autonomous Republic of Adjara and the Georgian Academy of Agricultural Sciences hosted the meeting in collaboration with <\/span>BACSA (Black and Caspian Seas and Central Asia Silk Association)<\/strong><\/a>. Currently several countries from Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia, which are BACSA members, must face the problem of <\/span>how preserving and relaunching sericulture<\/strong>. On the other hand, although more than 40 Countries in the World are interested in sericulture, 90% of these make efforts only to preserve it and only few make some attempts to revive it. Even in those countries that until now have been the major cocoon or silk producers, now there are entire regions where sericulture was partially or totally abandoned and this agricultural activity may be lost. <\/span>Therefore, the preservation and relaunch of sericulture is not a local problem of BACSA countries, but a global issue.<\/span><\/p>\n

With this aim, the Conference organizers appreciate the presentation of papers on this fundamental theme, as well as reports on the state of sericulture in the countries, works regarding science and technology in the fields of the silkworm, cocoons, silk production, pathology, selection and rearing, utilization of the silkworm and mulberry for non-textile objectives, the technologies of cocoon post-harvesting , textile industry and marketing.<\/p>\n
