The Council for Agricultural Research and Agricultural Economics Analysis (CREA) is a national agency based in Rome and operates under the supervision of the Italian Ministry of Agricultural, Food and Forestry Policies. It was founded in 2015 as a result of the merger of the Agricultural Research Council (CRA) and the National Institute of Agricultural Economics (INEA).
In its different areas of operation, CREA is represented by the two centres involved in the project and is tasked with the pursuit of research in moriculture and sericulture, the preservation of the silkworm germplasm collection, while also making its skills available in the fields of mechanisation and rationalisation of agricultural processes.
It has always focused on traceability, quality production chains, organic farming, and the promotion of agricultural produce; it is active in training, technical assistance and innovation transfer at the service of agricultural and industrial companies, with numerous registered patents.
The moriculture and sericulture laboratory of the Agriculture and Environment Centre is located in the Venetian Region (Padua); the Engineering and Agri-food Processing Centre is based in Lazio, in Monterotondo (Rome).
