Leader partner of the project Serinnovation, the Agricultural Company Il Brolo was established in 2015 in Teolo, in the Regional Park of the Euganean Hills, in the cellars and service buildings of the adjacent Villa Bembiana, Abano Terme.
The company’s mission, true to the Social Cooperative Idee Verdi that inspired its foundation, is work integration for people affected by social hardship. Together with the environmental characteristics of the area, this goal promotes local agricultural business along with the rediscovery and renewal of rural activities like moriculture and sericulture, in order to nurture a sense of family and community.
In addition to building a new silkworm rearing facility, the company has committed itself to cultivating a few hectares of mulberry orchards (fields) to study rearing systems best suited for mechanisation. This will be followed by the testing of a prototype in the field for the mechanised harvesting of the silkworm feed, the leaf.
Together with other silkworm farmers, in 2017 it contributed towards founding the Network of Agricultural Companies “Bachicoltura Setica” (Fair sericulture).
In 2019 it participated in an innovative project, with the building of “Silk Pavilion II” by Prof. Neri Oxman of the Mit, Boston, at its facilities. This example of bioarchitecture was exhibited at the Moma, New York, from February to September 2020.
Il Brolo is also a winery: in its vineyards typical varieties of the Euganean Hills are cultivated, with focus on maintaining biodiversity. It also plans to open catering and reception facilities.
