6th March: launch of the Aracne project in Padova (Italy)

Meeting for the launch of the project, leaded by CREA and granted by the programme Horizon Europe. The project involves institutional and private partners from all Europe, to recreate a touristic-cultural itinerary along the European Silk Road.

The project ARACNE (acronym of Advocating the Role of Silk Art and Cultural Heritage at National and European Scale), is among the very few projects, with Italian lead partners/coordinators, which were selected to receive a grant in the framework of Horizon Europe, “Culture, creativity and inclusive society” Work Programme, “Research and innovation on cultural heritage and Cultural and Creative Industries” call, devoted to research and development for the cultural and creative sector.

The activities foreseen in the project will start with the kick-off meeting of all the project partners on Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th March in Padova (Italy). Among the other scheduled appointments there is also the introductory event of 6th March, at 11.30 a.m., which is in Italian language and open to the public by prior reservation.

Goals to achieve in this three-year project are ambitious and tangible:

  • to obtain an inventory of the sericulture heritage, a cultural legacy for all the Italian and European involved communities, aim that will be achieved through the involvement of historians, researchers, and schools too;
  • to build a virtual map of the collected contents, reachable through a website or an interactive App, and apt to implement touristic, scientific, and technological uses;
  • to study the new utilizations of products and by-products of the sericultural chain and of the mulberry, to be used as a multipurpose bioresource;
  • to conduct a survey about the different mulberry cultivars and silkworm strains findable in the involved territories to make them available for the European farmers;
  • to boost the development and positioning of creative and artisanal productions on the market by enhancing their strong attractiveness, sustainability, and high added value;
  • to contribute to the establishment of the future “European Silk Road”, cultural itinerary crisscrossing Europe and certified under the Council of Europe’s umbrella.
