“New millenium bug. Past, Present, and Future of Sericulture in Veneto”: the project aimed at Venetian schools.
The Department of Philosophy, Sociology, Education and Applied Psychology (FISPPA) of the University of Padua and the CREA (Council of Research in Agriculture and Analysis of Agricultural Economics) – laboratory of Padua were the promoters, in agreement with the Ufficio Scolastico Regionale per il Veneto (Regional School Office for Veneto), of a training meeting aimed at primary and secondary school teachers and students.
The purpose of the meeting, which took place on Thursday December 9, 2021 in online mode, was to make known and enhance the experiences of sericulture in Veneto, which are proving to be an excellent driving force for the green economy. The Bombyx mori is no longer just synonymous with fine fabrics, but finds applications in surgery, cosmetics, animal and human nutrition, and is at the center of research in nanotechnologies and superconductors.
During the meeting, experiences of some territorial stakeholders were also presented, bringing teachers and students closer to this topic and allowing interested schools to propose specific PCTO projects (Paths for Transversal Skills and Orientation) organized by CREA of Padua and the Department of Philosophy, Sociology, Pedagogy, and Applied Psychology (FISPPA) of the University of Padua.
Already in 2022, the first school projects are planned to bring the incredible potential of the silk chain into the classrooms, highlighting the present and future of a low-impact and high-value-added economy.
